We got hit pretty hard by Hurricane Matthew last night. Around 2 am the “eye wall” hit Hilton Head Island\Bluffton and hammered us until it moved north around 5 am. At a painfully slow 12 miles per hour, the 50-80 mph wind and storm surge (combined with high tide) devastated the outer islands all the way west to I-95. I spent most of today checking on our friends homes, boats, and docks. Me and Ray-Ray made it through the night without a scratch. Most folks here in the Low Country were not so fortunate. The 21 inches of rain softened the ground up and the wind uprooted hundreds of our awesome Live Oaks. With the trees coming down, so did the power lines. And there you have it…..trees down, property destroyed, power out, roads blocked, homes open to the elements, and what was a bad situation will get worse by the day. Hopefully tomorrow will be dry and residents will be allowed back to see what is left.
